Electronic and Design Solution Fair 2005
Back from the EDS Fair Yesterday. =)
What have I learnt from the fair
1) Nothing
Really nothing.
You would expect it to be a really major event with a large crowd, high tech gadgets and cool demonstrations, and of cos lots of babes around, but in reality, there's nothing of that sort.
Japan is really overhyped. They often exaggerate their tourist attractions and "major" events to entice people to go there, but it really falls short of your expectations when you're actually there. Don't be fooled..
But of cos, back to the main event.. the EDS Fair.. Well it wasn't THAT bad after all. Just that going there seems meaningless to us when my level of japanese proficiency is way too poor to understand 95% of what they are saying. Except for a few guys, most of the exhibitors cannot speak English as well, which makes it all the more difficult + no English brochures. This fair is meant only for Japanese I gather.
There are the usual Big-Guns in electronic design showng off their latest softwares and capabilities. Synopsys, Cadence, Magma, etc. Their Booths were pretty elaborate with well-rehearsed presentations at different times to introduce their products. Went in to listen to a few presentations BUT sigh... poor japanese coupled with the boring materials which were not even relevant to our training, my brain switched off.
Here are some pics taken at the fair.
EDS Fair 2005, Girls in Mini Skirts Giving Away Freebies
Filling Up Survey Forms to Get a Lucky Dip
EDS Fair 2005, Jedat Counter
But like typical Singaporeans.. there were the usual fare of Goodies / Freebies up for grabs. Just fill in a survey form in Japanese, sound vaguely interested in their products, pretend to understand the technical advantages of their softwares, and voila.. You get a Freebie, a lucky Dip or a Chance to win an iPod Mini or Electronic Dictionary from their lucky draw. Cool..
Look at what I got! ;)
Back from EDS Fair with All my Freebies Shown Here, Including that Travel Bag
Ended up home with lots of Sweets/Candies/Dusters/Pens/LEDs/Headphones/Phone Sleeves/Bags/Stationary Sets. (See above) Wouldn't mind going to more tech fairs in future, I love tech fairs for their goodies. =) Won a "一等” prize too.. which translates roughly to 1st prize, but darn, did not get the ipod speakers that was on display. They gave me a small trolley travel case instead though, well better than nothing though its pretty useless for me. Chee Keong won an electronic step pacer, and the counter girl was like.. duh..ringing a loud bell attracting everyone's attention for that. Man, don't they feel dumb??
Anyway, on a sidenote, here's an interesting photo that I took in Yokohama while going back to dormitory.
Besides Boasting a Giant Ferris Wheel, Yokohama has a Ferris Wheel for Cars
Okie okie.. so to speak, it was a boring fair with few min-skirt companion girls, but we get to go home early with all the goodies so that makes up the day for every kiasu singaporean haha.
p/s: Never trust the Japanese when they say "I can pick you up", was "snooked" by our boss when he said that. It meant "I can pick you up to take the train, you dumbass" rather than "I drove and can give you a lift". duhhh..
